The early afternoon of June 13, 2017 the Hagerstown Fire Department was alerted for a house fire on Winter Street in the West End of Hagerstown.  The Washington County ECC received calls reporting smoke coming from 228 Winter Street.  Hagerstown units responded on Box Alarm 3-4-2 at 12:06 hours along with Community Rescue Service and Washington County Special Operations.

Battalion Chief 1, Russell Grim arrived on the scene within five minutes of the dispatch to find smoke showing from the Delta Side of Division II of the structure.  Chief Grim established Winter Street Command and immediately requested the Safety Assignment dispatched, as smoke could now be seen coming out of the Alpha Side of Division I of the structure.  Firefighters from Hagerstown quickly made entry into the residence to find the first floor of the home fully charged with smoke.

Firefighters worked to advance attack lines into the home searching for the fire as Hagerstown Fire Chief, Steve Lohr observed fire visible in the Charlie / Delta corner of the home.  Firefighters were able to locate the fire and conduct a quick knockdown within minutes of entry.  Command confirmed fire knocked down at 12:35 hours.
